Genesis

Our sacred Sananga is sourced directly from the Yawanawá Tribe, known for their deep spiritual connection with the forest and its healing plants. Made from powerful Amazonian roots, this sacred medicine is prepared through prayer, song, and ceremony—each drop carrying the vibration of ancestral wisdom and the spirit of the rainforest.

The making of Sananga is a sacred act, blending healing tradition with spiritual devotion. During preparation, prayers and icaros (healing chants) are sung to activate the medicine’s energetic power, infusing it with light and protection.

The strength of Sananga lies not only in its physical properties but in the harmony of those who prepare it—the alignment of intention, environment, and spirit. It is a medicine of awakening and purification, guiding the soul toward clarity and deeper connection with all that is.

Sananga medicine has been used by Indigenous peoples of the Amazon for thousands of years. Traditionally, it is applied before hunting, as it sharpens vision, enhances focus, and clears lingering stagnant energies from the body and mind.

Among the Shanenawa people of the Brazilian Amazon, the Sananga ceremony is a sacred moment of purification and alignment with the spirit of nature. It is performed with prayer, intention, and deep respect for the plant, which is considered a living teacher.

The ritual begins with a prayer to the forest and to the ancestors, asking permission to work with the medicine. The space is prepared with calm and presence, often in nature or near a fire, to honor the spirit of the plant and create harmony among all participants.

The Sananga medicine, made from the roots of the Tabernaemontana undulata plant, is freshly prepared by the Shanenawa healers. It is always handled with reverence, as they believe its spirit carries the strength of the forest and the wisdom of their ancestors.

When ready, the healer gently applies a few drops of Sananga into each eye. The moment of application brings a strong burning sensation, which is understood as the medicine entering deeply — cleansing the eyes, mind, and energy field. Participants are encouraged to stay still, breathe, and focus their thoughts on what they wish to release or bring clarity to.

As the intensity softens, the body relaxes and a profound sense of peace and clarity follows. The vision may feel sharper, the heart lighter, and the mind calmer. For the Shanenawa, this process symbolizes seeing with truth, both outwardly and inwardly, reconnecting the person to nature and to their own spirit.

The Sananga ceremony is not only for healing the eyes, but for renewing energy, restoring focus, and bringing harmony to the body and soul. It is a sacred gift from the forest, reminding all who receive it that true vision begins within.

Building Connections with the Yawanawá Tribe

The Yawanawá tribe is a beloved and resilient community, known for its profound spiritual practices that have been passed down through generations. With a population of approximately 2,000 members, the Yawanawá reside far from modern civilization, along the banks of the Gregorio River in Acre, Brazil. Their remote homeland is accessible only by boat from Vila São Vicente, a small and little-known town.

Our connection with the Yawanawá marked a significant milestone. The tribe is highly esteemed among other indigenous groups and the broader spiritual community, known for their isolation and cautious approach to outside influence. The Yawanawá are selective in their interactions, particularly when it comes to modern civilization and business interests. With pure intentions, we were able to build a bridge of trust and collaboration with the Yawanawá medicine men and women, fostering a relationship based on respect and shared spiritual values. This partnership reflects our deep reverence for their traditions and our commitment to preserving and honoring their sacred practices.

The People of the White Crow

The Yawanawá, also known as the "People of the White Crow," is rooted in the Acre region of the Brazilian Amazon. They are renowned for their rich cultural expressions, including traditional songs, ayahuasca ceremonies, dances, and intricate body art. The Yawanawá are the stewards of powerful spiritual practices, which they pass down through generations. Central to their spiritual traditions are sacred medicines such as ayahuasca, hapé, and other plant-based remedies, which they use for healing, self-discovery, and transformation.

In addition to their deep spiritual practices, the Yawanawá are committed to preserving their cultural heritage and sharing their teachings with the broader world. Their efforts foster meaningful intercultural exchange while maintaining a strong dedication to protecting their ancestral lands and the natural resources that sustain them. The Yawanawá’s resilience and commitment to future generations highlight their strength in the face of modern challenges.

Yawanawá & Hapé

The Yawanawá tribe uses only one type of hapé—the tsunu hapé—which is made from the ashes of the Tsunu tree and mapacho. This blend is considered sacred and powerful, deeply aligned with healing, clarity, and spiritual growth. Tsunú hapé helps participants connect with their inner wisdom, ancestors, and the natural world. The preparation and administration of this hapé have been passed down through generations, preserving the knowledge of its spiritual significance and sacred use. As such, tsunu hapé is an essential part of the Yawanawá cultural identity.

Hapé & Spiritual Practices

Our Yawanawá hapé is sourced from the Paka village, where we partook in an ayahuasca ceremony. It’s important to note that their hapé blend is unique, not only due to the proportions of its ingredients but also because of the enchanted energy it carries. The Yawanawá are well-known for their spiritual music and chants, which imbue their hapé with a powerful, sacred energy. Our selection of tsunu hapé is a reflection of the spirit and energy of the Yawanawá medicine men and women.

Building Connections with the Katukina (Noke Koi)

We have established deep and meaningful connections with the Katukina people, also known as the Noke Koi, meaning “true people,” an Indigenous community of the Brazilian Amazon. They primarily reside in the state of Acre, along the southwestern region of the forest.

Their rich culture, ancestral knowledge, and spiritual traditions are deeply rooted in their connection to nature. Sacred medicines such as Sananga play an important role in their way of life, supporting balance, clarity, and spiritual alignment.

We deeply honor and respect the Katukina for their wisdom and their continued guardianship of the Amazon’s sacred traditions and natural harmony.

Guardians of Ancestral Wisdom and Cultural Identity

The Katukina identify through traditional clan lineages such as Varinawa (People of the Sun), Kamanawa (People of the Jaguar), and Nainawa (People of the Sky), reflecting their deep spiritual and cosmological connection to the natural world.

They maintain a strong relationship with the forest through ritual, oral tradition, and daily practices centered on harmony and respect for nature. Despite historical challenges, they have preserved their language, identity, and customs with remarkable resilience.

Their traditions continue to guide their community, carrying forward generations of ancestral wisdom.

The Sacred Use of Sananga

The Katukina are widely respected for their deep knowledge of medicinal plants, including Sananga, a traditional preparation made from the roots and bark of Amazonian plants.

Within their culture, Sananga is used in ceremonial contexts to support clarity, focus, and energetic cleansing. It is valued as a tool for strengthening awareness and connection to both the physical and spiritual realms.

The preparation process is carried out with care and intention. Each step—from harvesting to final preparation—is performed with respect, prayers, and connection to the spirit of the medicine. This transforms Sananga into more than a physical substance; it becomes an expression of ancestral knowledge and connection to the forest.

Sananga & Spiritual Practices

Sananga carries both physical and energetic significance within Katukina traditions. It is approached as a sacred medicine used to support grounding, inner clarity, and alignment.

In working with this medicine, the Katukina honor the spirit of the plants and their relationship with Pachamama, the living earth. Each preparation reflects the intention, cultural identity, and spiritual understanding of the community.

Experience Sananga with respect, awareness, and gratitude.
